Yarloop, Western Australia

Yarloop image

Yarloop is home to the Bindjareb people and the former site of Australia's most significant private timber mill town. The timber in the area was so well-renowned that Jarrah blocks produced here once lined the streets of London! Wander the Yarloop Heritage Walk Trail to discover the area's rich history, or head east to explore the rolling hills and lush greenery of the Harris River State Forest. Your journey back in time takes just a 1.5-hour drive from Perth on the South Western Highway, or you can jump aboard the Australind train that departs daily from Perth and Bunbury. To sample some of the region's natural beauty and flavours, pick up some local wine from Vineyard 28 and gourmet produce. Head for Logue Brooke Dam - Lake Brockman in the Darling Range and enjoy a picnic surrounded by the towering jarrah forest. Adventurists can hit the water in a canoe or even try water skiing. Set up your camp or get cosy in a cabin beside the dam and enjoy the sights and sounds of the bush as the sun sets and stars fill the night sky. Or opt to enjoy the country charm and hospitality of Yarloop in a traditional bed and breakfast or hotel.
