University Of The Third Age Mackay

U3A is a self help education movement which caters for persons in the 'third age' and for those who have retired, promoting the concept of studying simply for the joy of learning. It is not a formal University, and does not offer formal qualifications nor set academic qualifications as a prerequisite for entry. Classes are held in many areas and locations. The service plays a vital role in improving the quality of life of retired persons. The courses are run by volunteer tutors and include; Computer, Internet, i-Pads, Tai Chi when a tutor is available, Conversational French, Italian conversation, Anthropology/ancient history, opera group, gardening, painting, creative writing, painting, mah jongg, croquet, musical chimes, wood carving, collectables, photography, petanque and card games. And of course fortnightly coffee & chat and monthly lunches at various venues
